The Petrina vase

The clay that was used to make this vessel was harvested in the alpine foothill town of Castellamonte, Piemonte, Italy, historically and today a very important area in the tradition of pottery in this region. The texture of the vessel has been created with the seeds of a cheesewood tree, and includes rocks, quartz and sand that have been left unprocessed in the clay body. This vase has been fired to 1150 C and is watertight.

This vase is part of the Castellamonte collection.
